All hail to sail!
No one does it better like those working hard at sea!
Happy Seafarer’s Day!
25th June of each year is the “Day of the Seafarer”, honoring the invaluable contribution seafarers make from local to international trade and the world economy, often at great personal cost to themselves and their families.
Be it normal day or even if we are in the middle of pandemic our seafarers have helped keeping the momentum of the economy intact.
Be it on transporting goods or transferring our stranded fellowmen.
Our seafarers sacrifice their social life for us. One of the toughest challenges that they are facing is the fact that they are always far from their families. It’s not their choice but it’s part of their profession. Missing a lot of important occasions in their lives is never easy. Most of them missed their kid’s birthday, weddings, graduation, worst some funerals of their loved ones just to carry out their duties at sea. It’s the pain that we cannot take away from them. Knowing that people on land celebrate and socialize with their loved ones in every possible opportunity while they are risking their lives to ensure that those celebrations do not stop even if it cost their own happiness.
Fighting the toughest seas and roughest weathers is also a great challenge for our seafarers. Transporting cargo from one place to another despite of all the challenges that they might encounter as they sail the biggest seas- makes the life of a seafarer. A sea isn’t as friendly as it seems as we watch it from the horizon. Even if modern technology has improved the life of the marine industry, normal catastrophes and weather conditions couldn’t be stopped by it. Whatever may come, the cargo has to be shipped to the scheduled location at the right time. A lot of ships sink each year due to this uncontrollable conditions but that doesn’t scare a seafarer- as if they are born for such conditions. He is build tough and has the heart to carry on with this work as the ship rolls and pitches over huge waves. While others are complaining about their work at their cozy offices, people at sea work are facing the sickest and worst conditions to ensure that businesses around the world do not stop and those on land continue to enjoy their comfort.
Working on ships is never easy. They are also prone to several diseases because of the nature of their work. The need for travelling one place to another place is one of the reasons why men at sea experiencing health problems. Aside from physical hazards that can cause by an accident, men at sea also experiencing psychological problems such as homesickness, loneliness and fatigue. They have to manage everything with themselves at sea. Most do not know about the hard work seafarers put every day and night to run those ships and their machinery.
These are some of the common things that our seafarers are experiencing. No amount of words can replace the sacrifices that they are continuously doing for us to survive our economy.
We are very grateful to have our seafarers under Portavaga Ship Management—Island Water who are continuously exceeding their efforts doing their duties at sea despite of all the circumstances.
The day of the seafarer is also an opportunity to educate the public how these great men are sacrificing their lives despite of the issues facing the modern-day seafarer. But most of all, it is a celebration for us to say “Thank you seafarers!”
We at Island Water by Shogun Ships Co., Inc. request the people of the world to give a special “THANK YOU” to all the seafarers for the tremendous work they do.
